DownVid is an advanced browser-based media utility designed to help users capture, convert, and archive streaming video formats including HLS (HTTP Live Streaming / M3U8), MPEG-DASH (MPD), and live web broadcasts directly to high-standard MP4 format.

Our Mission

As the web shifted from static video files (.mp4 links) to fragmented adaptive streaming protocols (M3U8 playlists with hundreds of tiny .ts or .m4s fragments), traditional video downloaders broke down. Users were left with fragmented segments, unplayable files, or forced to use heavy third-party desktop converters with security risks.

Our mission is to bring 100% client-side, browser-native stream reconstruction to everyday internet users without requiring heavy software installations, cloud conversions, or intrusive third-party servers.

How Our Technology Works

Unlike server-side downloaders that send your video requests through remote proxy servers, DownVid leverages modern browser capabilities:

  • Web Workers & Mediabunny Remuxing: DownVid uses an isolated Web Worker running high-performance media demuxers and remuxers to convert raw transport stream (TS) chunks into compliant ISO Base Media File Format (MP4) on-the-fly.
  • Web Crypto API: Encrypted M3U8 streams (AES-128-CBC) are decrypted natively using the browser's hardware-accelerated crypto.subtle engine.
  • MediaSource Extensions (MSE) Hooking: For dynamic players where stream URLs are protected or obscured by blobs, DownVid hooks directly into the browser's media buffer, capturing video frames with multi-speed acceleration.
  • Declarative Net Request: We bypass CORS and anti-hotlinking barriers by dynamically stripping restricted headers within browser security guidelines.

Our Commitment to Privacy

We believe your browsing history and media archives are strictly private. Because all stream downloads and conversions occur locally on your machine, our servers never see your video content, playback tokens, or destination files. We maintain a zero-knowledge architecture regarding user media.
